My favorite sweet potato pie recipe

I remember the very first time I had a bite of Sweet Potato Pie and immediately fell in love.

Since then I have been looking for my version of a perfect sweet potato pie recipe and have found it!

My recipe for Sweet Potato Pie is sweet, creamy and perfectly seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg and a pinch of cloves.

It's in a simple pie crust and uses baked sweet potatoes to keep it moist and easy to prepare.

Cooked or baked sweet potatoes for sweet potato pie

I strongly suggest baking your sweet potatoes for this sweet potato pie recipe.

When you cook your sweet potatoes, the finished porridge is much drier than a baked sweet potato.

Even if you bake your sweet potatoes, you will use much less pots than they cook! You only need foil and a baking sheet!

If you want to cook your sweet potatoes, you may need to add a little more butter and milk.

Sweet potato cake ingredients

There are a few key ingredients that will make sure this recipe for Sweet Potato Pie will be perfect.

Let's discuss the milk first. You can use whole milk or condensed milk in this recipe.

Either you work well, but you should not use milk with lower fat content or something thicker (like cream).

Second, I use a mixture of granulated sugar and brown sugar.

The combination gives this sweet potato pie the perfect sweetness, with the brown sugar adding just the right depth.

You need absolutely no toppings for this special recipe for sweet potato pie, it's perfect as it is!

However, I have a few suggestions for possible funny coverings:

  • whipped cream
  • Marshmallow Fluff
  • ice
  • Cool whip

Personally, I like it best when I drink a drop of Marshmallow Fluff. If I feel like it, I'll hit him with a cooking lamp (affiliate link).

The second best is a bunch of homemade whipped cream! It is the most classic topping for a sweet potato pie and always delicious.

Store it firmly wrapped in saran wrap in the refrigerator after you have completely cooled it on the counter.

If you put it in the refrigerator before it is 100% cooled, condensation may accumulate on the top. You also risk cracks if it cools down too fast.
